Meeting of One
Last week my co-coach and I faced a small challenge. Three of our five most influential rugby players on the team were going to miss our next match against a team we lost 27-19 to on our home field last year. Any team that has a chance of winning the league at any level will always have about 5 players that would be able to make the side of any other team in the league – they your MVP’s (Most valuable Players). Losing half, or in our case, one more than half of our MVP’s was going to be tough. We only field one team in that age group and we don’t have the depth to make “like for like” replacements especially at MVP level. This prompted two things for us as coaches:
(1) Accelerate further changes we wanted to make earlier in the season with certain players regarding their positions, and
(2) Have a heart to heart with those players explaining why we believed their strengths best suited a change in position.
The positional changes were going to be extreme in two cases and exploratory for the balance. Two wings to become a flank and a lock, a hooker to shift to flank and a bench warmer at prop to shift to hooker. We made the changes and then I took some time to chat with each player individually whilst my co-coach carried on with practise. In our discussions we reviewed briefly what they loved about the game, their strengths, why they were playing in the positions they were and why I believed they might be better suited to the changes based on their strengths and likes.
The changes were made!! Playing away from home, missing key players and then seeing the size of our opposition, I didn’t hold out much hope. The first 10 minutes confirmed that fear. We could not get our hands on the ball at all. It was one way traffic. BUT then it seemed as if a switch came on in the players’ minds. Maybe it was just the time they needed to gel in their new positions, maybe it was fluke, but the game turned on its head and we went on to win the match 26-7.
##FIRSTNAME##, what if God is looking down on His match day team and wants to make some strategic changes to win the game. Up until now He has allowed you to play in the position you want to or the one you thought was good for you. Maybe it was the best position for you, a little earlier in your walk with Him. Yes, life has had its ups and downs, but mostly you have got on with it and made a good go of it. There has been no reason to challenge what you are doing, it’s working.
What if God has another plan? What if, as in Revelations 3:8(a) our Father is saying, ” I know your [record of] works and what you are doing. See! I have set before you a door wide open which no one is able to shut.” What if God as our Life Coach is looking in on the match of your life and is saying, “The time is ripe, I need to move you into a better position better suited for your life in this next season.” Isn’t it worth going to have a “Meeting of One” with Him, where you can discuss with your Father what you love about your life, why you have been playing where you are and then exploring with your Father what your strengths and abilities are and where they align with the passions that fire your heart? Just maybe God has another position for you to play in the next season of your life. Maybe there are some changes you not yet aware of that God wants to make. Take a chance – meet with your Father. I did and it changed my life!!
I was meant to tell you about that change in my life and how I went about it in this email, as I suggested I would in my previous email. But, I have waffled on too much already, so I will have to leave it for another email yet again. However, why not take advantage of the conference we have running at Rhema Vine Ministries at 79 Old Main Road, Lynnfield Park (Ashburton) called Designed on Purpose to start your “Meeting of One” with God. Visit our website https://menofvalour.co.za/ to find out more and to register.
You have been designed on purpose, with purpose in mind.
I hope you can make and I look forward to seeing you again.
